How our readers and dog magazines, such as Modern Dog, review Dump Dog

Dump Dog readers are dog pros and average dog owners. The book is written for, and is enjoyed by, everyone who loves dogs.

MODERN DOG MAGAZINE - SPRING 2008.... Written in diary fashion, Dump Dog offers more than a dry recounting of Jay's methods, as her intelligent and respectful anthropomorphizing of her dogs' thoughts and actions bring this book to life. As you witness Jay's gentle and mindful training methods, you come to understand vital elements in the process of gaining trust and love, and, ultimately, in forming strong human-dog relationships. Modern Dog Editor

Hi Silvia,I finished Dump Dog last night and thought the book is one of the best I've ever read. I went through all the mixture of emotions. I cried, I laughed, I concentrated and really got so into the book that I could actually see the scenes you were describing. I truly love the book and am looking forward to another from you. Excellent.Cheers,Nick

CAPPDT FORUM - WINTER 2007 - Dump Dog is an interesting read. Although the style and anthropomorphism will not appeal to all readers, the story is heartwarming and Silvia Jay's commitment to Will is inspiring. Literally putting words in her dogs' mouths, Silvia recounts stories of Will's transformation from their points of view...

One strength of the book, which is essentially Silvia's journaling of Will's progress, is that there are times when Silvia adds a post-script to point out errors in her thinking or interpretation. Training, much as we would like it to be an exact science, rarely is black and white. Silvia is honest in her portrayal of the process she went through with Will.

DEFINITELY A WORTHWHILE READ.

I absolutely love this book .... so much that I have already purchased 6 copies to give to my dog loving friends.

It is a wonderful "love" story; and in my opinion exemplifies how hard work and lots of love and caring can restore the abused spirit and heart to place of trust and confidence in those who are suppose to care for us. I see many parallels with abused children who are adopted by hard working, committed parents...

...Dump Dog is very "reader friendly" in that it is easy to read, easy to understand and hard to put down. You take the reader to a place where we must consider our relationships at a deeper level than just the caretakers of these pets, which leads the reader into "reflection of self", which isn't always easy to do, and usually easier to avoid. I loved this book and it will become one of the "gifts" I will pass along to the people in my life, and for more reasons than just a good read.

I wanted to let you know that I read Dump Dog (in about 2 days) and really LOVED it. Not only did I gain a higher respect for you and Mike and what you do, but I really admired the honesty you put forth. The doubts and frustrations and how you would admit when you made a wrong choice about something, really just help me realize that we are all learning how to be the best we can be and there are always mistakes to be learned. It is a beautiful story.

I have just finished Dump Dog and had to write and tell you how much I enjoyed it. Such patience and devotion you showed to all your four-legged friends. You are an inspiration to dog lovers everywhere. Your insights into animal behavior are so sensitive and detailed. I really enjoyed the book and will recommend it to anyone who might be having problems with their pet/owner relationship.

Many dog books start out with their crude observations of wolf behavior, then put dogs in the same category; and then go on talking about how to bend dogs' natural impulses into ones accepted by human society. I find these books usually very unsatisfactory to read. Your book really made me think about a lot of things, like, how dog perceive the world, people's responsibilities toward them, and of course how to deal with problems, because we own them and they have to live with people. And that became very clear to me not only because of your great knowledge of dog behavior, but also because of your compassion for them. Hope there is another book in the progress.

I read Dump Dog and loved it! Keeko loved it, too, but was full after the first chapter! - I had to buy a second copy. There were thoughts in your book I have used with dogs I have worked with, but as always, there was much more to learn. I found as I was reading it that it reminded me of "this dog", or "those puppies" that I fostered. Things that I tried, other things that I wished I had thought of.

I loved your book Dump Dog. It was the best story that I have read about the connection and relationship of people and their dogs. Thank you so much for sharing it.
