These are the two dogs we are presently parenting: Davie and Will
Davie and Will, our dogs we are
parenting -
Dump Dog
is their story, especially Will's - are both rescues; were in danger to be euthanized at a very young age. Both had behavior problems that were solved with Mindful Leadership.
They are allowed on furniture and sleep on the bed, but they move without us having to command them to. We feed from the table, but they don’t beg. They don’t walk behind us, but stay close voluntarily off-leash and respond instantly. They’ve been from coast to coast, in motel and hotel rooms, on ferries and sea taxies and in other people’s homes. They have no problem if guest dogs explore their toy box, eat next to their food dishes, or steal their ball in the park. They don’t fight and they don’t resource guard. They participated in a variety of dog sports, recreational tracking and herding and most our outings are off-leash. They leave whatever I tell them to; come when called and release their find on request. They were never reprimanded or punished; never scruff-shaken or alpha rolled, don’t know the word "no" and have no idea what a choke, shock or prong collar is. I am not a walking treat dispenser and I don’t use a clicker. Why are my dogs so well behaved? Because they know I understand them, provide for them, and protect them. I teach them with scientific methods they understand and that trains their cognitive abilities as much as it is possible for a dog. They trust me in every novel situation and skillfully navigate the human society.
